On Friday 2 February, Canteen young people and their families impacted by cancer got up close and personal with iconic Australian band The Living End for an exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Canteen families gathered at one of Sydney’s most-loved music venues, Selina’s, for an intimate 40-guest event. Witnessing the band's soundcheck was just the beginning - guests got to request their favourite songs, meet and chat with the band members, snap some unforgettable photos, and soak in the magic of the moment… all before the band's electric show a few hours later.
Leticia Pearse was among the lucky guests with her sister, Melanie. Leticia just finished 12 months of cancer treatment, and had registered her kids (16 and 11 years old) to receive support from Canteen and Camp Quality. She says she couldn’t have imagined a better way to celebrate the welcome milestone than a night out watching The Living End with family.
“Familiar music from my teenage years has been a great comfort to me over the past twelve months; while sitting in the chemo chair, recuperating on the lounge, and finding the energy to move and motivate myself. This is what The Living End has given me - All Torn Down, West End Riot, Second Solution and White Noise are my power tunes. So when I could thank the band, it was far more than the incredible experience of being up close and personal - it was for getting me through treatment because they were there with me the whole way.”
This exclusive VIP experience with The Living End would not have been possible without Canteen corporate partner Metricon Homes, who gifted the night and experience to cultivate moments of respite and create cherished memories for young people and families impacted by cancer.
Canteen extends its warm thanks to The Living End, Metricon, Selina’s Sydney, and the Canteen families who shared in the experience.
Australia’s leading home builder Metricon has a steadfast dedication to community philanthropy. A valued partner of Canteen since 2019, Metricon has donated one million dollars in financial support over three years, complemented by in-kind assistance and fundraising initiatives.
